Originally serialized from 1978-1987, the famous and sometimes contraversial anime magazine Animec 30 years with a special, one-shot issue scheduled to hit Japanese book stores in the Summer season of 2019. The special issue features a "40 Years of Gundam" of the venerable Bandai / Sunrise mecha series.
Additionally, in conjunction with the Kakuyome website, the special issue of Animec is running a contest for fans to submit their personal experiences with the "New Century of Anime Declaration", an event that was held on February 22, 1981 (prior to the release of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Movie) which is 15,000 anime fans gathered at Alta Plaza near the east exit of Shinjuku Station and at which director Yoshiyuki Tomino declared "Our time will be defined by a new century of anime".
The "New Century of Anime" essay contest runs from May 26-June 09, 2019, and the winners of the contest will be determined by a panel of judges headed by former Animec associate editor / current Kadokawa Shoten CEO Shinichiro Inoue. The winners' essays will be published in the Summer 2019 special issue of Animec.
