Moviegoers will be celebrating 50 years of the Lupine the Third TV anime with a crisp new theatrical run of The Castle of Cagliostro!!

The beloved 1979 film, marking Hayao Miyazaki's feature film directorial debut, is one of the most iconic pieces of Lupine Media ever made. The second animated Lupine the Third Feature film and the third-ever film in total (both it and Mystery of Mamo Are preceded by the live-action Strange Psychokinetic Strategy), The Castle of Cagliostro Sends the Lupin Gang in search of a counterfeiting ring in a small European country. When he gets there, he discovers a princess in danger and an even bigger treasure waiting to be discovered.

This screening will feature 4K video and 7.1ch surround sound audio. Also screened will be "Is Lupine Still Burning ?," the 2018 OVA made in honor of the manga's 50th anniversary. Co-directed by series creator Monkey Punch And Lupine Film regular Jun KawagoeBut instead of a simple car race, the OVA ropes in multiple returning foes — in particular Mamo Kyosuke (no relation), an evil science fiction writer from the 29th century who builds a time machine to kill off every member of the Lupin family.

The dual screening of The Castle of Cagliostro And "Is Lupin Still Burning?" Kicks off October 1 in Japan.
