Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Are Now the Highest-Selling Remake Games Ever

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokémon and the Nintendo Switch seem to be a match made in gaming heaven, with the Switch Pokémon games doing absolutely crazy numbers, even when they've only been out for a few months. Nintendo released their quarterly reports today, revealing the sales numbers of all their games up to March 31, 2022, showing that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were the highest-selling Nintendo game of the fiscal year 2022 and are now the highest-selling Pokémon remake generation of all-time.

To put that sales number in perspective, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have sold 14.65 million copies since they were released on November 11, 2011. That's more than the lifetime sales of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, and only 1 million copies less than the lifetime sales of Pokémon Black and White, which are mainline Pokémon games, not remakes or sequels. In fact, due to the data from March only being released in May, the games may have already surpassed a mainline title, which would make Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl the first remakes to surpass the sales of a mainline game – but the data is still out on that.

This doesn't leave Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the dust though, which was revealed to be the second-best-selling Nintendo Switch title of the fiscal year 2022 at 12.64 million copies sold. The game was only released on January 28, 2022, giving it a little over two months to reach that sales amount and without a Christmas season to boost sales. It has already surpassed Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and all the third version games (not including Pokémon Yellow).

That means that since November, new Pokémon games have sold 27.29 million copies – that's an unfathomable amount!

Pokémon Sword and Shield also got a sale update, selling 3.18 million copies over the last fiscal year and confirming their status as the second-best-selling Pokémon generation of all time, only less than Pokémon Red, Blue and Green
