A longtime veteran of the anime industry has left us, as we learn that art director Shichiro Kobayashi has passed away. Kobayashi was 89 years old, and passed due to congestive heart failure.
Kobayashi graduated from Musashino Art University and worked as an elementary school teacher before joining Toei Animation, and then eventually founded his own studio, Kobayashi Production, in 1968. His contributions to the anime industry over the years are numerous, from working as art director on the likes of the Hayao Miyazaki-directed Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro anime film to Golgo 13: The Professional, Revolutionary Girl Utena, 1997's Berserk adaptation and many more.
Shichiro Kobayashi will be missed, and his impact upon the industry will always be felt. Our thoughts go out to his friends, family and colleagues.
