After the last OVA was released in 2013, it was announced on January 6 that Higurashi When They Cry – Based off the murder mystery visual novels of the same name from 07th Expansion – Will be getting a chilling new animation project.A new visual was released for the project alongside a teaser trailer.
It has not been announced whether the new anime project is an OVA – like many adaptations of the franchise – or a full TV series.It has been announced that the project will be animated at Passione (Rail Wars, citrus) with character designs by Akio Watanabe (Monogatari series, The World God Only Knows).
The original Higurashi When They Cry TV anime was broadcast in 2006 from Chiaki Kon (Golden Time, Sailor Moon Crystal) at Studio DEEN.The original series will be rebroadcast on AT-X in Japan from January 8.
