Idris Elba Will Voice Knuckles in Second Sonic the Hedgehog Film

Sonic and Knuckles

A few months ago, sharp-eyed fans got what looked to be visual proof that Knuckles the Echidna would be appearing in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Today we not only got that confirmed … we found out who's playing him!

English voice actor, producer, and DJ Idris Elba Dropped this tweet and image on his official Twitter account — And if you read it in Elba's voice, that's all the proof you need that he's the guy for the job:

Elba has a multitude of memorable roles to his name, including Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim, Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stringer Bell in The Wire, and (most recently) Bloodsport in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. He will be joining Ben Schwartz (Returning as the voice of Sonic), Jim Carrey (As Dr. Robotnik), and James Marsden (as Sonic's human friend Tom).

2020's Sonic the Hedgehog film got off to a rough start with fans, as Sonic's CG design for the film was largely criticized. But after a glow-up led by Sonic Mania Adventures director Tyson Hesse, the character design (and the film itself) went on to positive reviews. The new art style carried over into the post-credits arrival of Sonic's sidekick Tails (voiced once again by Colleen O'Shaughnessy), who will also appear in the upcoming film.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Is currently racing toward an April 2022 Release date.
