PS3, PSP, and PS Vita PlayStation Stores to Shut Down This Summer

PlayStation Store

Players recently got word that the PlayStation Stores would be shutting down for PS3, PSP, and PS Vita, and now Sony has followed through with confirmation. Both the PlayStation 3 and PSP shops will officially close on July 2, followed by the PS Vita PSN Store on August 27.

Sony shared the update in an email to PlayStation customers, noting some specifics about the shutdown in the process. Once the respective store for each platform is closed, customers won't be able to make new PS3, PS Vita, or PSP purchases, which includes in-game purchases and the ability to redeem wallet funds across the three systems.

On the bright side, players will continue to be able to re-download and play previously purchased games and videos. With that said, if there are any games you've been eyeing for digital purchase, now is the time to take the plunge, especially for any titles that are digital-only.

This is one of the many reasons physical media rules when it's an option.
