Dead Mount Death Play Anime Adaptation Announced

A TV anime adaptation of Dead Mount Death Play dark fantasy manga series is confirmed to be in the works for a premiere in April 2023 today. The anime's official website and Twitter also open, revealing a first PV and a teaser visual.

Written by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Shinta Fujimoto, Dead Mount Death Play began serialization in Square Enix's Young Gangan in 2017, with nine volumes released in Japan to date. Yen Press releases the English edition of the manga, with Volume 8 released in September 2022. Yen Press describes the story as:

It's a showdown for the ages as the legendary hero takes on the corpse god necromancer, but when the dust settles, something isn't quite right… In the final moments of their epic confrontation, the corpse god's final gambit shot was wholly unexpected — reincarnation magic! Across space and time, a boy named Polka Shinoyama awakens feeling…not quite himself…… Who could've expected that the climactic battle between good and evil would turn out like this??

The TV anime adaptation is directed by Manabu Ono (The Irregular at Magic High School, Sword Art Online: Alicization), who also serves as series composition writer. Hisashi Abe (Kingdom) designs the anime characters and GEEKTOYS (Date A Live IV) works on anime production.

The anime 's three main voice cast are also announced – Yuki Sakakihara (Nanaki Ralei in The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt), voices the protagonist Poruka Shinoyama, alongside Inori Minase (Rem in Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World) as Misaki Sakimiya and Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro in JUJUTSU KAISEN) as Takumi Kuruya.
